How to use the
Dartford Larder

Upon arrival, you will be triaged to see if you qualify for support. The Larder is here to help those who are struggling and in need of a helping hand. Whether it's the cost of living or learning how to make your meals go further, the Larder is here for you.

Arrival

Upon arrival, you will be seated with one of our volunteer support agent who will guide you through the membership process. Please bring a council tax bill or proof of benefits with your address on it, showing that you live in and pay council tax to Dartford Borough Council.

We will take some basic information and ask a few questions to understand how we can best support you. Membership lasts for 3 months, during which we aim to help you get back on your feet.

Check in

You will then return to the shop entrance and pay £4.50 per shop at reception. Please note that we do not accept cash — payment is by card only.

If you don’t currently have a bank account, we can help. In partnership with Barclays, we can support you in setting up an account to help you budget for your weekly £4.50 shop.

3

Shop

Once you’ve checked in, you can grab a shopping basket and browse our dedicated, well-stocked shop, filled with a wide range of products to help you create delicious and nutritious meals.

We also offer free cooking classes to help you make the most of the food available at the Larder.

4

Now your set

Once you’ve finished shopping, our friendly staff will check you out at the tills. On your next visit, simply show your membership card at reception to enter the shop.

You’ll only need to see a support team member again if you’ve arranged a follow-up chat or would like to sign up for additional classes or support.

Please note: once your 3-month membership comes to an end, you will need to be reassessed to determine if you still qualify for continued use. This will depend on your individual circumstances and needs.
